Fabrication of a gas-permeable microplate sealing film

Customer's Challenge

Customer was looking for an oxygen-permeable microplate sealing film.

CSTEC's Proposal

Microplate sealing films are generally used as lids to prevent drying and contamination. In this case, however, a membrane that allows only oxygen to pass through was required.
Therefore, we developed a two-layer microplate sealing film by combining a 1 µm-thick PTFE (fluororesin), which allows air to pass while blocking water, with an adhesive tape perforated at 384 well positions.
For ease of use, we also added markings on the membrane to indicate the well positions.
PTFE membranes are available in various pore structures, and we can select the most suitable type depending on the application.
We also handle custom fabrication of breathable microplate sealing films for applications such as cell culture, where gas permeability is required.
