Tape processing and lamination onto the bottom of 96-well and 384-well plates

Customer's Challenge

Customer wants to laminate specified materials to the bottom of microplates used for cell culture. In particular, they require precise lamination of these materials to the well bottoms of 96-well and 384-well plates.

CSTEC's Proposal

In microplates with a large number of wells, such as 96-well and 384-well plates, die-cutting on double-sided adhesive tape can easily cause distortion. In this case, we used laser processing, which allowed us to achieve precise fabrication without distortion. In addition, by using dedicated jigs for lamination, we were able to meet the required precision specified by the customer.
When laminating materials onto the bottom of microplates for cell culture, various methods are available, such as heat bonding, adhesives, laser processing, and molecular bonding. However, we recommend double-sided adhesive tape with excellent mass productivity and low extractables, which has already been adopted by multiple customers.
We can also apply hydrophilic coatings to microplates for 3D cell culture, enabling cell growth in an environment closer to in vivo conditions.
